Hutchinson makes waves in the drag racing scene at just 9 years old.
At just 9 years old, Luke Hutchinson is well known in the junior dragster racing scene, competing in the 6-9-year-old class with a determination and passion that exceeds his age. Sponsored by LB Trailers, a brand owned by Right Trailers following its acquisition in 2023, Luke has already established himself as a formidable competitor, with eight race wins under his belt, this season alone. At the Holiday Junior Jam, Luke outlasted many older competitors and was the only 9-year-old left racing.
Luke’s home track is the legendary Bristol Dragway, where he has clinched multiple victories. “I have won 8 races so far this season,” Luke proudly shared. Among his many achievements, Luke highlights his runner-up finishes at the NHRA Division 2 race at Galot Dragway and the Teal Family Memorial race. When asked about his favorite track, he admits, “Picking a favorite track is hard, but I would have to say my favorite is Galot.”
Early Beginnings and Passion for Racing
Luke's journey into the world of drag racing began almost as soon as he could walk. “I started making test passes at age 5 and racing at age 6,” he recalls. Racing is in Luke's blood as his father and two older brothers, Dru and Josh, all are racers. "I could not wait until I was old enough to start racing because I had been going to drag races since I was two weeks old to watch my dad race and my two older brothers race junior dragsters. I have just always loved drag racing, being at the track with my friends, and I knew it was something I wanted to do."
Luke’s partnership with LB Trailers began in the 2024 race season, a milestone that has only fueled his drive to succeed. "I knew LB Trailers was a sponsorship because I see many of the cars at races with the stickers on their cars, and you hear it announced at races when they sponsor someone. Michael Scott, President of Right Trailers is always at the NHRA divisional races, and my dad asked to learn more about sponsorship opportunities. The rest is history and we look forward to applying again this fall to remain on the team. When we were contacted that we would receive a sponsorship from LB Trailers, I was so excited."
Looking Ahead
As the season progresses, Luke has his sights set on several key races, including the final NHRA Division 2 race at Rockingham, the remaining NHRA Division 2 National Opens, Division 2 Bracket Finals in South Georgia, a Halloween race, and the Holiday Junior Jam at Rockingham Dragway.
Looking further into the future, Luke is clear about his goals: “My goal with racing in the future is to win more track championships, to win more Wally’s, and to have fun with my friends at the track. When I get older and get in a big car, I want to win the Million!”
Luke’s success would not be possible without the support of those around him. “I would like to thank God for blessing me with the ability to race.”
Luke Hutchinson is more than just a rising star in junior drag racing—he's a young racer with a bright future. As he continues to compete, the racing community will undoubtedly hear much more about this talented young driver.
